The Japanese Government's Grassroots Grant Assistance for

"Construction of Agriculture Training Centre in Pinlain Alhe Village in Mandalay Division "

The Government of Japan, under it s Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme , decided to extend assistance of US$ 82 ,698 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “ The Project for Construction of Agriculture Training Centre in Pinlain Alhe Village in Mandalay Division ”.

Mr. Kazuyuki Takeuchi , Minister/ Counselor Deputy C hief of M iss io n of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Kyaw Shwe , Chairman of Gold Rose Agricultural Association , signed the grant contract on 9th December 2008.

In Pinlain Alhe Village near Pyin Oo Lwin Town, many farmers live in poverty. Since 2003, Gold Rose Agricultural Association , has provided a gricultural technical assistance to the farmers in Pinlain Alhe Village and three nearby v illage s, with the help of a Japanese NGO , Alternative Plant for Opium Poppy (APOP), aiming at improving the living standard of the farmers. Recognizing Gold Rose Agricultural Association 's plan to further expand their technical cooperation program, the Government of Japan decided to fund their project for constructing the Agriculture Training Centre and providing Japanese grape seedlings for the t raining to farmers.

It is expected that the support will improve the living standard of villagers by developing their a gricultur al skills, contribute to the all-round development of Pinlain Alhe Village, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
