The Government of Japan, under it s Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme , decided to extend assistance of US$ 88,330 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for the Construction of Centre for Disability in Development in Yangon Division”.

Mr. Kazuyuki Takeuchi, Minister / Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Tha Uke , Managing Director of the Eden Center for Disabled Children, signed the grant contract on 12 th December 2008.

Since its opening in Hmaw Bi township in February 2008 under the Eden Center for the Disabled Children, the Centre for Disability in Development has provided various disability related training courses, such as “Disability Equality”, “Disability Awareness”, “Community Based Rehabilitation”, “Disability and Development”, and so on. As the Center started its mission with minimum facilities, a proper training building has been waited for.

In order to help providing a better learning environment for the participants of the disability related trainings, a barrier free training centre building, which is one-storey construction of reinforced concrete comprised of a training hall, an office,

a kitchen, a dining space and toilets, as well as walkway to other buildings, will be funded under the Grassroots Grant Assistance Programme. It is expected that this assistance will benefit persons with disabilities in Myanmar and will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
