The Government of Japan, under it s Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme , decided to extend assistance of US$ 85,108 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for the Construction of Doe Pin Orphanage in Mandalay Division”.
Mr. Kazuyuki Takeuchi, Minister / Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Aw Sein Na , c hair person of Doe Pin Orphanage Management Committee, signed the grant contract on 15 th December 2008.
Doe Pin Orphanage was opened in 1979 and was authorized by the Department of Social Welfare, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief & Resettlement as a first class orphanage in 2000. At present it provides board, lodging and education to 425 children. Since it does not have enough rooms for children to study, dine and sleep, an additional orphanage building has been longed for.
In order to help to provide a better living and learning environment for children, one orphanage building, which is one-storey construction of reinforced concrete comprised of two sleeping rooms, one study/dining room with furniture will be funded under the Grassroots Grant Assistance Programme. It is expected that this assistance will benefit children of Doe Pin Orphanage and will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
