The Government of Japan, under it s Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme , decided to extend assistance of US$ 85,196 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for Construction of Community Bridge in Sittaung Sanpya Village, Mon State ”.
Mr. Kazuyuki Takeuchi , Minister/Deputy C hief of M iss io n of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Htay Yee , Chairman of Kha Wha Chaung Bridge Construction Committee , signed the grant contract on 22 December 2008.
Sittaung Sanpya v illage is located at the junction of Kha Wha Chaung river and Sittaung river. Since Sittaung Sanpya v illage is divided by Kha Wha Chaung river, v illage rs constructed Kha Wha Chaung bridge with wood in 1982. Recently, as the bridge became old and v illage rs have repaired it many times for a secure transport, a stronger and safer bridge has been waited for.
In order to help to improve the transportation not only for Sittaung Sanpya v illage rs but also those in nearby villages, a bridge of reinforced concrete will be funded under the Grassroots Grant Assistance Program. It is expected that this assistance will contribute to the all-round development of the area, improve the living standard of the villagers, and further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
