The Government of Japan, under it s Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme , decided to extend assistance of US$ 87,850 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for Construction of Community Bridge in Kyaung Kone Township, Ayawaddy Division ”.
Mr. Kazuyuki Takeuchi , Minister/Deputy C hief of M iss io n of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Than Tun Aung , Chairman of Ye Ga Lote Bridge Construction Committee , signed the grant contract on 23 December 2008.
17 village tracts in Kyaung Kone t ownship Ayawaddy Division are almost surrounded by the Daka river and the Ye Ga Lote river. Since villagers had difficulties in reaching to Kyaung Kone town with hospitals, schools and markets, Ye Ga Lote Bridge Construction Committee constructed a bamboo bridge in October 2005. However, Since the bamboo bridge lasts only about three years, a more durable b ridge has been waited for.
In order to help to provide access to the town, a bridge of reinforced concrete will be funded under the Grassroots Grant Assistance Program. It is expected that this assistance will contribute to the all-round development of the area, and further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
