The year 2009 has been designated as the Japan-Mekong Exchange Year to further expand exchanges between Japan and the Mekong region countries, and a variety of exchange programmes between Japan and the Mekong region countries are scheduled to be held. The logo and catch line of Japan-Mekong Exchange Year is as follows:-

The Japanese Film Festival 2009 which is one of the events commemorating this special year, will be held in Yangon at Thamada Cinema from January 18-21, and in Mandalay at WinLite Cinema from February 23-26, 2009 as per the following schedule:

Tickets for the public, one ticket per person, will be distributed at respective cinemas from two hours before the start of the film show until all tickets are issued out. As tickets are limited they will be issued on first come first served basis.
