The Japanese Government's Grassroots Grant Assistance for

"The Project for Reconstruction and Repair of Schools destroyed by the Cyclone Nargis "

The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, decided to extend assistance for reconstruction and repair of school buildings destroyed by the Cyclone Nargis.The amount in total is as much as US$ 1,105,215, which consists of the following projects:

Mr. Kazuyuki Takeuchi, Minister / Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and Chairman of each school Building Construction Committee have completed signing for the grant contracts by 23 January 2009.

In order to recover a better environment for study, the Government of Japan will provide funding through its GGA Programme for reconstruction of reinforced concrete school buildings in Cyclone affected area.It is expected that this assistance will benefit the students in their pursuit of formal studies and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
