TV Drama Series - FROM THE NORTHERN COUNTRY

      The Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV) of the Ministry of Information in cooperation with the Japan Foundation resumed broadcasting the Japanese TV Drama series “From the Northern Country” from February 25, 2009. This TV series received awardssuch as 1981 14th Annual Television Award, 19th Galaxy Award, Japan Producer’s Association Award and the Yamamoto Award for Literature.

Synopsis:

     Jun and Hatoru have lived in a log cabin by themselves for 6 months while their father, Goro, has been away working in Tokyo.They are absolutely delighted to see their father who comes back home to celebrate New Year with them. During the holiday season, unexpected events occur around them: Shokichi suddenly runs away from home; Matsukichi Sawada returns to his hometown after 30 years away; Goro is facing with a huge debt.

     At school, Jun and Shokichi steal a book from a boy who makes fun of Jun’s father, Goro. Afterwards, they quarrel and Shokichi blames Jun for not being honest. When Jun is 15, he meets a beautiful girl, Rei who is leaving for Tokyo after graduation. Then he starts considering going to Tokyo himself. As he can’t work up the nerve to talk to his father about it, he seeks help from others in the village.

     Although Jun tries his best to make a life for himself in Tokyo, he runs into problems along the way and returns home for the New Year. Around that time, his sister Hotaru falls in love.As the children have moved on with their lives, Goro starts to build a log cabin in the mountain to replace his old one in an attempt to forget his loneliness. Hotaru is now attending nursing school elsewhere, and realizes that it has been too long since her last visit home.Jun runs into some trouble after meeting a girl named Tamako.Wanting to help his son, Goro sells off all of the logs that he has prepared for the new cabin….
