The Government of Japan decided to extend, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, assistance of US$ 60,625for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for Strengthening of Public Health Laboratory (Upper Myanmar) in Mandalay Division”.
Mr. Kazuyuki Takeuchi, Minister / Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and Dr. Ne Win, Director of Public Health Laboratory, Mandalay, signed the grant contract on 25 March 2009.
The public health laboratory in Mandalay was established in 1970.Since then it has been intended to provide better public health service for the people not only in Mandalay Division but also in other areas in thenorthern part of Myanmar, such as Sagaing Division and ChinState. In recognition of their effort, the Government of Japan decided to fund equipment, such as a thermal cycler, an autoclave, a biosafety cabinet, a low temperature freezer, a microcentrifuge and a microscope. This assistance is expected to benefit villagers of upper Myanmar by promoting their health, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
