The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, grantedUS$ 81,140 for the project for construction ofSeikta Thukha Monastic Primary SchoolinShan State on January 12,2009.Twostoried building and related facilities, constructed under GGA Scheme, were handed over byMr. Hisanori Yoshimura, Second secretary of Embassy of Japan to the School Construction commitee onJune 29, 2009.
This Monastic School started to provide formal education in 1996. Since the opening, the school has accepted pupils from a variety of ethnic groups who live in the region. As the number of students has exceeded 2000, the need for a proper schoolhouse became a considerable concern to the people in this area.
In order to provide a better learning environment, the Government of Japan will provide funding through its GGA Programme for construction of a two-storey reinforced concrete school building comprised of 6 classrooms and school furniture. It is expected that this assistance will benefit the students in their pursuit of formal studies and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
