THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT'S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR

" The Project for Upgrading National Rehabilitation Hospital in Yangon Division "

The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, decided to extend assistance of US$ 93,750for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for UpgradingNationalRehabilitationHospital in Yangon Division”.

Mr. Kazuyuki Takeuchi, Minister / Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and Dr.U Moe Aung, Superintendent of National Rehabilitation Hospital signed the grant contract on 29th September 2009.

NationalRehabilitationHospital was established in 1959 to provide rehabilitation services to the disabled.

In order to enable NationalRehabilitationHospital to upgrade rehabilitation services quality for the disabled, the Government of Japan will provide funding through its GGA Programme for the construction of a gymnasium for relaxation and exercise therapy.

This assistance is expected to improve the quality of rehabilitation services provided by the NationalRehabilitationHospital and thereby benefit the disabled, as well as thereby further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
