Handing over Ceremony of Doe Pin Orphanage in Pyin Oo

The
Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme,
granted US$ 85,108 for “The
Project of the Construction of Doe Pin Orphanage in Mandalay Division” on December 15, 2008.
One-storey building of reinforced concrete which is comprised of
two bedrooms, one study/dining room with furniture, funded
by the Embassy of Japan, was handed over by Mr. Hisanori Yoshimura, Second Secretary of the Japanese Embassy to the authorities concerned from Doe Pin Orphanage on November 18, 2009.
Doe Pin Orphanage
was established in 1978 and was recognized by the
Department of Social Welfare, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and
Resettlement as the first-class orphanage in 2000 and provided board, lodging
and education to 425 children. Since the orphanage did
not have enough rooms for children to study, dine and sleep, it had long been in need of an annexe
building. The Japanese government funded a one-storey building for this orphanage
under the Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme in order to help provide a better
living and learning environment for children.
It is expected that this assistance will
benefit children of Doe Pin Orphanage, thereby further strengthening existing friendly relations between
