PRESS RELEASE

THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR

The Project for CONSTRUCTION OF OPERATION ROOM AND PROVISION OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT FOR PIN LE BU TOWNSHIP HOSPITAL IN SAGAING DIVISION

18 December 2009

The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, decided to extend assistance of US$ 96,825 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for Construction of Operation Room and Provision of Medical Equipment for Pin Le Bu Township Hospital in Sagaing Division”.

Mr. Kazuyuki Takeuchi, Minister / Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Tin Nyo, Chairperson of Pin Le Bu Township Health Committee, signed the grant contract of this project on 18 December 2009.

Pin Le Bu Township is situated about 240 miles away from Mandalay city.  Since the building has aged and the facility is not enough to offer appropriate medical services to the people in Pin Le Bu Township, the Government of Japan will fund through its GGA Programme the construction of an operation room for Pin Le Bu Township Hospital equipped with medical and sanitation facilities.

This assistance is expected to benefit people of Pin Le Bu Township by promoting their health, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
