THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR

The Project for Provision of Equipment for Food Analysis Laboratory in Yangon Division

22 December 2009

The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, decided to extend assistance of US$ 96,946 for a program entitled “The Project for Provision of Equipment for Food Analysis Laboratory in Yangon Division”.

Mr. Mitsuji Suzuka, Counsellor of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Zaw Min Win, Chairman of Myanmar Agro Based Food Processors and Exporters Association, signed the grant contract of this project on 22 December 2009.

Myanmar Agro Based Food Processors and Exporters Association is a NGO formed under the guidance of Ministry of Commerce to improve the quality of local agro-based food products. Since Myanmar local agro-based products are not able to compete effectively in the local and international markets due to lack of enough food analysis, the Government of Japan will fund through its GGA Programme the provision of chemical and micro-biological laboratory equipment to Myanmar Agro Based Food Processors and Exporters Association.

This assistance is expected to benefit people of Myanmar by promoting their Agro-based industry, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
