THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR

“The Project for Construction of Three Primary Schools in Kyauk Ta Lone Township, Shan State

23 December 2009

The Government of Japan decided to extend, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA)Scheme, assistance of US$ 96,900 for a humanitarian program entitled ”The Project for Construction of Three Primary Schools in Kyauk Ta Lone Township Shan State”.

Mr. Kazuyuki Takeuchi, Minister / Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Ohn Ngwe, Chairman of Kyauk Ta Lone Education Committee, signed the grant contract on 23 December 2009.

Three villages in Kyauk Ta Lone Township, namely Hte Ne, The Ta Maung and Naung Phet Pone, educational facilities are insufficient these days as the number of students in those areas has increased. Although the residents have made strenuous efforts to improve their educational facilities, they are confronted with a financial constraint.

In order to provide a better learning environment for the students, three one-storey half-timbered school buildings, toilets, and school furniture will be funded under the Grassroots Grant Assistance Programme. This assistance is expected to benefit the students in their pursuit of formal studies and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
