THE JAPANESEGOVERNMENT’S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR

" THE PROJECT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF NATMAUK VIJJA SIPPAN MONASTIC PRIMARY SCHOOL IN

YANGON "

January 13, 2010

The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, granted US$ 89,050 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The project for construction of NatmaukVijjaSippanMonasticPrimary School in Yangon”.

Mitsuji Suzuka, Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Aung Myint, the Chairman of Natmauk Vijja Sippan Monastic Primary School Construction Committee, signed the grant contract on 13 January 2010.

This monastery has provided formal education to school children at low school fee, which has made the monastic school quite popular. Although the number of student who want to attend this school was increased year by year, the school has not been able to accept all the students due to the shortage of classrooms.

In order to assist a monastic school to provide a better learning environment, a two-storey reinforced concrete school building comprised of 6 classrooms, school furniture and water supply facility will be funded under its GGA Scheme. This assistance will benefit the students in their pursuit of formal studies and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
