THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR

 

"THE PROJECT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SCHOOL BUILDING FOR PARAHITA BLIND SCHOOL IN MANDALAY

DIVISION "

The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, decided to extend assistance of US$ 96,999for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for Construction of School Building for ParahitaBlindSchool in Mandalay Division”.

Mr. Mitsuji Suzuka, Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Kyin Aung, Chairperson of Parahita Blind School Development andManagement Committee signed the grant contract on 15th January 2010.

ParahitaBlindSchool was established in Pyin Oo Lwin city in 2001 in order to improve education for the blind by Sayadaw U Nya Ya who had lost his eyesight due to scarlet fever. At present about 100 students of different races and religions attend the school from all over the country. Since the students study at the dining room for luck of classroom, the Government of Japan will fund through its GGA Programme the construction of a school building equipped with furniture and sanitation facilities.

This assistance is expected to benefit the blind in Myanmar, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
