THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR

 

"THE PROJECT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF DAMA YAUNGCHI MONASTIC PRIMARY SCHOOL IN MYEIK

TOWNSHIP, TANINTHARYI DIVISION "

The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA)Scheme, decided to extend assistance ofUS$83,171 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled ”The Project for Construction of Dama Yaungchi Monastic Primary School in Myeik Township, Tanintharyi Division”.

Mr. KazuyukiTakeuchi, Minister / Deputy Chief ofMission of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Kyaw Win, Chairman of Dama Yaungchi Monastic Primary School BuildingConstruction Committee,signed the grant contract on 19 February 2010.

Dama Yaungchi Monastic Primary School began in 1998. The villagers enlarged the school building by contributions and self-act efforts with the increase of students. More than 2000 students are learning in three numbers of the school buildings. The students have increased and its educational facilities are insufficient. Although the villagers have made strenuous efforts to improve its educational facilities, they are confronted with a financial difficulty.

In such circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for the construction of school buildings, toilets, and school furniture for Dama Yaungchi Monastic Primary School through its GGA Programme. It is expected that this assistance willprovide the students at the above school better learning conditions, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
