THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR

 

"CONSTRUCTION OF WATER SUPPLY IN MEIKTILA, THARZI AND PYAWBWE TOWNSHIP, MANDALAY

DIVISION "

The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, decided to extend assistance of US$77,700for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for Construction of Water Supply in Meiktila, Thazi and Pyawbwe Township, Mandalay Division”.

Mr. Mitsuji Suzuka, Counsellor the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Saw Teddy, Country Director of Adventist Development and Relief Agency Myanmar, signed the grant contract on 25th February2010.

The project site is situated in central dry zone in Myanmar. Local farmers and villagers totally depend on rain water. The annual rain fall is less than 29 inches. However, which is not sufficient for agriculture and daily use. Therefore, the Government of Japan decided to fund construction of water supply system including hundred 150-140 ft tube well and one complete set of Terrameter.

It is expected that this assistance will contribute to all-round development of the area and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
