1. On June 18 (Fri), the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods (tents, basic water tanks, etc.), equivalent to about 10 million yen, to the Union of Myanmar, which has sustained damage from a severe storm in its western region.
2. From June 13 (Sun) to June 15 (Tue), Rakhine State in the western part of Myanmar experienced landslides and flooding due to a severe storm.Thus far, 46 deaths and over 6,000 missing and injured persons have been reported, and over 500,000 households have suffered from damages (as of June 18).
At present, the surrounding areas are facing a serious situation where many villages are buried under the landslide, and roads and bridges have been washed away in numerous areas.
3.Taking into consideration the request made by the Government of the Union of Myanmar on June 18, the Government of Japan has decided to extend this emergency assistance from a humanitarian point of view as well as in light of the friendly relations between Japan and the Union of Myanmar.
