Programme to Improve Efficiency of Logistics and Distribution in the East-West Economic Corridor and Southern Economic Corridor

1.In the first Mekong-Japan Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in January 2008, the Government of Japanpledged 20 million dollars of assistance to be provided through the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund(JAIF) in order to improve the efficiency of logistics and distribution in the Mekong region.

 

2. As a part of this assistance, a 4-day Customs Risk Management Training for senior customs officers is to be conducted in Yangon. An Opening ceremony for this training was held on 22 June 2010. A lecture on the concept of risk management through statistical analyses of risks involving customs is scheduled during this training.

 

3. This training is also mentioned in the “Mekong-Japan Action Plan 63” which was adopted at the “first Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting”, held in November 2009 in Japan.

 

4.Japan will continue to provide assistance such as this training to facilitate the efficiency of logistics and distribution in the Mekong region.
