JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR THE PROJECT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THIRI MINGALAR MONASTIC POST PRIMARY SCHOOL

IN MYINGYAN, MANDALAY DIVISION

The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, granted US$ 99,450 for the project for construction of Thiri Mingalar Monastic POST Primary School in Myingyan, Mandalay Division.

 

Mr. KazuyukiTakeuchi, Minister / Deputy Chief ofMission of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Khin Maung Than, Chairman of Thiri Mingalar Monastic Primary School Construction Committee, signed the grant contract on 11 August 2010.

 

This monastic school has attracted many students and grown in size largely because it has charged low school fee in providing formal education to children. Since the opening of the school, students have been taught in temporary buildings in the monastery compound, which need reparations every two or three years. Two school buildings which comprises of 7 classrooms and school furniturewill be funded under the GGA Scheme to enable the monastic school to provide a better learning environment. This assistance will benefit the students in their pursuit of formal studies, thereby further strengthening existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
