JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR THE PROJECT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF WEST OKKYIN MONASTIC PRIMARY SCHOOL IN SHWEPYITHA TOWNSHIP, YANGON DIVISION

The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, granted US$ 95,700for the project for construction of West Okkyin Monastic Primary School in Shwepyitha Township, Yangon Division.

 

Mr. KazuyukiTakeuchi, Minister / Deputy Chief ofMission of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Than Win, Chairman of West Okkyin Monastic Primary School Construction Committee, signed the grant contract on August 31, 2010.

 

This monastic school has attracted many students and the number of students has increased to more than one thousand because it has charged low school fees in providing formal education to children. The school has not been able to accept all the students due to the shortage of classrooms. The two-storey reinforced concrete school building, which comprises of 6 classrooms, ground water tank and school furniture,will be funded under the GGA Scheme to enable the monastic school to provide a better learning environment. This assistance will benefit the students in their pursuit of formal studies, thereby further strengthening existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
