The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, granted US$ 93,750 for “TheProject forUpgrading National Rehabilitation Hospital in Yangon Region” on September29, 2009. One Gymnasium attached with a canteen and a walkwayfunded bythe Embassy of Japan, were handed over by Mr. Mitsuji Suzuka, Counsellor of Japanese Embassy to the authorities concerned on September24, 2010.
The National Rehabilitation Hospital was established in 1959 to provide rehabilitation services to the disabled.
In order to enable the National Rehabilitation Hospital to upgrade quality in rehabilitation services for the disabled,a gymnasium for recreation & exercise therapyattached with a canteen as well as a walkway to the hospital building, were funded by the Embassy of Japan in Yangon under the Grassroots Grant Assistance Programme.
It is expected that this assistance will improve the quality of services of the National Rehabilitation Hospital and benefit the disabledinMyanmar, thereby further strengthening existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
