The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA)Scheme, decided to extend an assistance of US$ 105,527 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled ” The Project for Construction of Goun Kyun Monastic Primary School in Rakhine State”.
Mr. Kazuyuki Takeuchi, Minister / Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in the Union of Myanmar, and U Maung Kyaw Nu, Chairperson of Goun Kyun Monastic Primary School Building Construction Committee, signed the grant contract on 27 January 2011.
Goun Kyun Monastic Primary School began in 1997. The villagers enlarged two school buildings by contributions and self-active efforts to respond to the increase of students. However, one of the school buildings can no longer be used due to aging. Nowadays, students are forced to take classes in limited available spaces using the Monastery building and the remaining school building. The number of students has increased and its educational facilities are insufficient. Although the villagers have made strenuous efforts to improve its educational facilities, they are still confronted with financial difficulties
In such circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for the construction of a school building, toilets, and school furniture for Goun Kyun Monastic Primary School through its GGA Programme. It is expected that this assistance will provide the students with better learning conditions, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar. |
