The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, decided to extend an assistance of US$ 93,437 for the project for construction of Mingalar Theikdhi Nunnery Primary School in South Dagon Township, Yangon Region.
Mr. Takashi Saito, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Union of Myanmar, and U Tin Myint, Chairman of Mingalar Theikdhi Nunnery Primary School Construction Committee, signed the grant contract on February 22, 2011.
This monastic school has attracted many students with the number of students increasing to around two hundred because it has charged low school fees in providing formal education to children. The school has not been able to accept all the students due to the shortage of classrooms, and the students are taught in the nunnery buildings.
The Two-storey reinforced concrete school building, which comprises of 5 classrooms, toilets, a water supply facility and school furniture, will be funded under the GGA Scheme to enable the monastic school to provide a better learning environment. This assistance will benefit students in their pursuit of formal studies, thereby further strengthening existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
