Handing Over Ceremony of Kansaung Village Water Supply System Constructed under

Japan’s Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme in Chauk Township, Magwe Region

February 25, 2011

The Government of Japan, under its Grassroots Grant Assistance (GGA) Scheme, granted US$ 32,579 for the Construction of the Water Supply System for Kansaung Village in Chauk Township, Magwe Region on March 12, 2010.

A Water supply system which is comprised of a 600ft deep tube-well, 5,000 gallon concrete water tank, water pump and generator set, which were constructed under the GGA Scheme for this village, were handed over by Mr. Kiyotomi TADA, Second secretary of Japanese Embassy, to the authorities concerned at the Village on February 17, 2011.

The Kansaung Village is situated in the central dry zone in Myanmar. Villagers and students have their time taken to fetch the water for their daily use. The nearest tube-well is 1 mile far from Kansaung Village and nearly 2 hours on foot. This new deep tube-well and related facilities provided under Japan’s assistance scheme are expected to improve the villager’s daily lives.

In order to create a better living environment for villagers, the Government of Japan will continue to provide funding through its GGA Scheme for infrastructure. It is expected that this assistance will help the villagers save the time spent on fetching water for their daily use, enabling them to engage more in other activities for the improvement of their lives, thereby further strengthening existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
