H.E. Mr. Takashi Saito, Ambassador of Japan to Myanmar, has signed
and exchanged Notes with H.E. U Tin Naing Thein, Union Minister for
National Planning and Economic Development of the Republic of the Union
of Myanmar covering an amount of 629 million yen (approximately 7.1 million
US dollars) for “the Provision of Equipment for Rural Water Supply Project In
the Central Dry Zone”, and an amount of 260 million yen (approximately 2.9
million US dollars) for the project "Human Resource Development
Scholarship" to be provided under the Grant Aid scheme of the Government
of Japan. The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of National
Planning and Economic Development on 28 September 2011.
The Rural Water Supply Project in the Central Dry Zone will ensure a
constant and safe supply of water to the people from 87 villages, living in the
central dry zone such as Magway, Mandalay and Sagaing Regions through
the provision of equipments for well drilling, well construction and water
quality inspection.
The Human Resource Scholarship Project, which started in 2002, gives
opportunities to promising Myanmar junior officials to pursue further studies
at Japanese universities to attain Masters' degrees. Under this project, 237
young Myanmar people have already been sent to Japan of which 181 have
completed Masters’ degree courses and returned to Myanmar.
It is expected that the project will contribute to the development of
Myanmar and promote existing friendly relations between Japan and
Myanmar.
