JAPAN PROVIDES EMERGENCY RELIEF GOODS FOR THE VICITMS OF MYANMAR

The Government of Japan decided on 27 October 2011, to provide emergency relief goods (Tent, Sleeping Mattress, Blanket, Generator, Cord Reel, Water Purifier) equivalent to about Japanese Yen 10 million in total (approximately U.S.$130,000 ) to the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar for victims of the flood in Magway, Mandalay and Sagaing Region.

The emergency relief goods arrived at the Yangon International Airport on 28 October 2011 and the handing over ceremony of the emergency relief goods was held in Yangon. Mr. Ichiro Maruyama, Minister-Counsellor/ Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan handed over the emergency goods to U Ko Ko Hlaing, Deputy Director General, Fire Services Department, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement. Staff from JICA Myanmar office were also present on the occasion.

Mr. Maruyama of the Embassy of Japan expressed deepest sympathies to those who have been affected by this disaster. U Ko Ko Hlaing from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, in response, said that all the emergency relief goods from the Government of Japan were goods which were urgently needed by the victims.

The Government of Japan has decided to extend this emergency assistance from the humanitarian point of view and in light of the friendly relations between Japan and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
