The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects(GGP/GGA) Scheme, has decided to extend an assistance of US$76,590 for a humanitarian program entitled "The Project for Construction of Rehabilitation Center in East Yangon General Hospital."
Mr.Ichiro Maruyama, Minister-Counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan, and Daw Tin Tin Sein, Medical Superintendent of East Yangon General Hospital, signed the grant contract of this project on 18 January 2012.
East Yangon General Hospital was established in Botataung Township in 1921 and the existing Rehabilitation Center building was donated in 1978. At present, the Hospital receives about 900 outpatients per month and has many useful equipments, but most equipments cannot be put to good use due to lack of space. In order to upgrade the quality of rehabilitation services at East Yangon General Hospital, the Government of Japan will provide funding through its GGP(GGA) scheme for the construction of a new Rehabilitation Center for treatment and exercise therapy.
This assistance is expected to benefit the people of Myanmar by improving the quality of rehabilitation services, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
