The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects(GGP/GGA) Scheme , granted US$106,065 for a humanitarian program entitled “ The Project for Construction of Kan Tet Kone Ma Soe Yein Monastic Primary School in Mandalay Region. ” The handing-over ceremony was took place on 30 January 2012 the above monastic primary school.
The handing-over ceremony was attended by Mr. Kiyotomi TADA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan , and U Win Hlaing Oo, Chairman of Kan Tet Kone Ma Soe Yein Monastic Primary Shool Construction Committee and other responsible officials from respective organizations, and local residents.
This monastic school has charged low school fees in providing formal education so that attracted more than seven hundred students, but due to the shortage of classrooms, school could not accept all the students and some of them were forced to be taught in a temporary bamboo school house.
The Two-story reinforced concrete school building, which comprises of 6 classrooms, toilets and school furniture, was funded under the GGP (GGA) scheme to enable the monastic school to provide a better learning environment. This assistance will benefit students in their pursuit of formal studies, thereby further strengthening existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
