The Government of Japan , under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP/GGA) Scheme , has decided to extend an assistance of US$ 89 , 102 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “ The Project for Construction of North Myoma Monastic Primary School in Minbya Township, Rakhine State ”.
H.E Mr. Takashi Saito , Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar , and U Aung Than , Chairperson of North Myoma Monastic Primary School Building Construction Committee , signed the grant contract on 22 February 201 2.
Since its establishment in 1980, North Myoma Monastic Primary School had used its buildings for the children of poor famil ies who were in need of education . There are no separate school buildings so in the first floor, second floor and dining room of the monastery building are used as classrooms.Consequently, 697 students were taught in an inadequate and needed a new building as soon as possible. Under these circumstances , the principle of monk and school committee was seeking to construct a new school building even though they were fac ed with financial difficulties.
In such circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for the construction of a school building, toilets, and school furniture for North Myoma Monastic Primary School through its (GGP/GGA) Programme. It is expected that this assistance w ill provide the students with better learning conditions, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
