The Government of Japan , under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP/GGA) Scheme , has decided to extend an assistance of US$ 91,048 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “ The Project for Construction of Nat Maw Monastic Middle School in Tanintharyi Region ”.
Mr. Ichiro Maruyama , Minister- C ounsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar , and U Kyaw Win , Chairperson of Nat Maw Monastic Middle School Building Construction Committee , signed the grant contract on 29 February 201 2.
Nat Maw Monastic Middle School opened in 1993 for orphans and poor children who were in need of educat ion but could not afford to do so d ue to the increase in the number of students, the community constructed the No (1) new school building in 1995. Every year, the number of students increas ed so that the new building No (2) and No (3) were constructed by the regional commander in 1997 and 1998, respectively . The school was upgraded as a middle school in 1998. Currently , there are 2240 students , and the current school buildings are not adequate for the students. Among the three buildings, one of the building was damaged. The community was seeking to solve that problem, but they were fac ed with financial difficulties.
In such circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for the construction of a school building and school furniture for Nat Maw Monastic Middle School through its (GGP/GGA) Programme. It is expected that this assistance w ill provide the students with better learning conditions, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
