The Government of Japan , under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP/GGA) Scheme , has decided to extend an assistance of US$ 89,078 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “ The Project for Construction of Min Kyaung Monastic Primary School in Rakhine State ”.
Mr. Ichiro Maruyama , Minister-counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar , and U Hmet Tun Aung , Chairperson of Min Kyaung Monastic Primary School Building Construction Committee , signed the grant contract on 29 February 201 2.
Min Kyaung monastic primary school was established in 1998 by using a monastic building where monk s live with the purpose of providing a free of charge education for children of poor families who cannot access basic education. With increas e of the number of students, the abbot and school committee constructed an iron roof, bamboo floor & wall s . Currently, the students are studying in inadequate spaces in the monastic building and current school building. The current school building is also damaged ; school building is crucial ly in need ed . Although , the abbot and school committee have attempt ed to build a new building , they were faced with financial difficult ies .
In such circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for the construction of a school building, toilets and school furniture for Min Kyaung Monastic Primary School through its (GGP/GGA) Programme. It is expected that this assistance w ill provide the students with better learning conditions, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
