The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP/GGA) Scheme, has decided to extend an assistance of US$107,790 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for Construction of Myo Thit High School (Branch) in Northern Shan State”.
Mr. Ichiro Maruyama, Minister-Counsellor / Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and U Hla Kyaw, Chairman of Myo Thit High School (Branch) Building Construction Committee, signed the grant contract on 7 March 2012.
Myo Thit High School (Branch) was established in 1948, then as a primary School only taught in Shan dialect, with the aim of providing education to the local ethnic population. In 1956 it became a bilingual school, taught in both Shan and Myanmar languages. It became a basic education primary school in 1956 and developed into a basic education middle school in 1997. It was recognized as an affiliated Government high school in 2000. Private donors and villagers had donated three school buildings and the Government also built 2 more buildings for the school. However the buildings are now old and need of reconstruction, resulting in students learning in insufficient spaces. The school Committee members and villagers put forth their best effort on reconstructing a new building; however, it has not succeeded yet due to their economic situations.
Under such circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for the construction of a school building, toilets, and school furniture for Myo Thit High School (Branch) through its GGP/GGA Programme. It is expected that this assistance will provide the students with better learning conditions, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
