The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP/GGA) Scheme , has decided to extend an assistance of US$ 93,424 for a humanitarian program entitled “ The Project for Construction of Thayargon Village Branch High School in Yangon Region ”.
Mr. Ichiro MARUYAMA, Minister-Counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan, and U Htay Win, Chairman of Thayargon Village Branch High School Construction Community , signed the grant contract of this project on 7 March 2012.
The Primary School first opened at Thayargon Village in 1954 and then was upgraded to a Middle School in 1990. In 2007, the school was upgraded again to a High School (Branch). However, as the number of students increased to more than 550, the school faced a shortage of classrooms.
The one-storey reinforced concrete school building, which comprises of 3 classrooms, toilets, school furniture and walk way, was funded under the GGP/GGA scheme to enable the school to provide a better learning environment. This assistance will benefit students in their pursuit of formal studies, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
