The Government of Japan , under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP/GGA) Scheme , has decided to extend an assistance of US$ 95,849 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “ The Project for Construction of Tha Yet Taw Monastic Primary School in Ayeyarwady Region ”.
H.E Mr. Takashi Saito , Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar , and U Maung Maung Win , Chairman of Tha Yet Taw Monastic Primary School Building Construction Committee , signed the grant contract on 9 March 201 2.
Tha Yet Taw Monastic Primary School opened in 1994 in a monastery. It was opened for orphans and poor children in order to provide basic education and religious training. There are no separate school buildings, and the ground floor and second floor of the monastery are used for teaching. Now the monastery has became with deteriorating so over 400 students are lacking proper teaching facilities and need a new building as soon as possible. Although, the abbot and school committee is seeking to construct a new school building, they are facing financial difficulties.
Under such circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for the construction of a school building, toilets, and school furniture for Tha Yet Taw Monastic Primary School through its (GGP/GGA) Programme. It is expected that this assistance w ill provide the students with better learning conditions, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
