The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP/GGA) Scheme, has decided to extend an assistance of US$28 ,367 for a humanitarian program entitled “ The Project for Construction of Thingangyun Township DOTS Center in Yangon Region. ”
Mr. Ichiro Maruyama, Minister-Counsellor / Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan , and Daw Chaw Hsu Win , Acting Township Medical Officer of Thingangyun Township Urban Health Center , signed the grant contract of this project on 15 March 2012.
Thingangyun Township Urban Health Center was established in 1981 in Thingangyun Township, Yangon Region, in order to provide diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis. The Center receives approximately 900 outpatients monthly. Since the Center faced difficulties to construct a new building to treat tuberculosis patients, the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for the construction of the new DOTS Center building for Thingangyun Township Urban Health Center through its GGP (GGA) scheme.
This assistance is expected to benefit the people of Myanmar by improving the quality of medical services, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
