The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP/GGA) Scheme , has decided to extend an assistance of US$107,490 for a humanitarian program entitled “ The Project for upgrading of Katha District Hospital in Sagaing region ”.
H.E. Mr. Takashi Saito, Ambassador of the Embassy of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar , and U Thi Ha, Chairman of the Katha District Hospital Development Committee, signed the grant contract of this project on 19 March 2012.
Katha District Hospital was established in 1957 at Katha Township, Sagaing Region, which is 217 miles away from Mandalay City. Access to major cities is very difficult due to the road conditions. Since the building of the operation theater is dilapidated, the existing facilities cannot offer appropriate medical services to the people in Katha District and its neighboring villages.
In order to upgrade the operation theater of Katha District Hospital in Sagaing region, the Government of Japan will fund through its GGP (GGA) scheme for the construction of a new operation theater and provision of medical equipment. This assistance is expected to benefit the people of Myanmar and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
