The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP/GGA) Scheme , has decided to extend an assistance of US$ 84,252 for a humanitarian program entitled “ The Project for Construction of Falamkon Monastic Middle School in Ma ndalay Region”.
Mr. Ichiro MARUYAMA, Minister-Counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan , and U Myint Han , Chairman of Falamkon Monastic Middle School Construction Community , signed the grant contract of this project on 16 March 2012.
Falamkon Monastic Middle School was first established in 1969 to provide free education to 20 poor children and orphans. It was upgraded to a middle school in 1998. As there was no middle school in this area, students from 12 neighbouring villages who finished primary school had to attend this middle school. As the number of students increased, school buildings became insufficient. In addition, the school building constructed in 1969 was in a state of dilapidation. So the abbot of monastery, members of the School Board of Trustees and parents tried to construct a new school building; however, they were faced with financial difficulties due to their low incomes.
The one-storey reinforced concrete school building, which comprises of 4 classrooms, toilets, school furniture and walk way, was funded under the GGP/GGA scheme to enable the monastic school to provide a better learning environment. This assistance will benefit students in their pursuit of formal studies, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
