JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRASSROOTS GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR THE PROJECT FOR

CONSTRUCTION OF CHAUNG ZAUK VILLAGE BRANCH HIGH SCHOOL IN YANGON REGION

20 March, 2012

The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP/GGA) Scheme , has decided to extend an assistance of US$ 84,481 for a humanitarian program entitled “The Project for Construction of Chaung Zauk Village Branch High School in Yangon Region”.

Mr. Ichiro MARUYAMA, Minister-Counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan , and U Win Hlaing , Chairman of Chaung Zauk Village Branch High School Construction Community , signed the grant contract of this project on 16 March 2012.

Chaung Zauk Village Branch High School is situated at Chaung Zauk Village in the eastern part of Thanlyin Township. It was first opened as a primary school in 1957 and then was upgraded to a basic education middle school in 1990 and then to a basic education branch high school in 2003. As students who finished primary and middle school from neighboring villages attended the Chaung Zauk Village Education Branch High School, the number of students increased substantially. So the school building, desks benches and toilets had become insufficient to accommodate such numbers.

The two-storey reinforced concrete school building, which comprises of 4 classrooms, toilets, school furniture and walk way, was funded under the GGP/GGA scheme to enable the school to provide a better learning environment. This assistance will benefit students in their pursuit of formal studies, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
