The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP/GGA) Scheme , has decided to extend an assistance of US$ 86,605 for a humanitarian program entitled “The Project for Construction of DaYeLoo Village Branch Middle School in Yangon Region”.
H.E. Mr. Takashi SAITO, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of the U nion of Myanmar , and U Nyan Myo Thet , Chairman of DaYeLoo Village Branch Middle School Construction Committee , signed the grant contract of this project on 19 March 2012.
DaYeLoo Village Branch Middle School is situated in the eastern part of Kunchangon Township. It was originally opened as a government primary school in 1949 and upgraded to the basic education middle school (Branch) in 2000. Two school buildings were destroyed by Cyclone Nargis, which hit the country in May 2008. Although No.3 Basic Education Department built a school building in 2009, the building, furniture and toilets became insufficient as the number of students increased to 492.
The one-storey reinforced concrete school building, which comprises of 5 classrooms, toilets, school furniture and walk way, was funded under the GGP/GGA scheme to enable the school to provide a better learning environment. This assistance will benefit students in their pursuit of formal studies, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
