The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, granted US$76,590for a humanitarian program entitled “The Project for Construction of Rehabilitation Center in East Yangon General Hospital”. The opening and hand-over ceremony of Rehabilitation Centerwas held on 18October 2012 at the Hospital.
Mr. Hideaki MATSUO, Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan, Dr. U Than Win, Deputy Director General of the Department of Health, Dr. U Aye Ko, Director of Yangon Region Health Division,Daw Tin TinSein, Medical Superintendent of East Yangon General Hospital, officials and staffs of East Yangon General hospital attended the ceremony.
East Yangon General Hospital was established inBotataung Township in 1921 andthe existing Rehabilitation Center building was constructed by donation in 1978. At present,the Hospital receives about 900 outpatients per month. The existing Rehabilitation Centerpossesses much useful equipments, but most equipment cannot be put into good use due to lack of space.In order toupgrade the quality of rehabilitation servicesat East Yangon General Hospital, the Government of Japanhas provided funding through its GGPschemefor the construction of a newRehabilitation Center for treatment and exercise therapy.
This assistance is expected to benefitthe people of Myanmarby improving the quality of rehabilitation services, and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
