The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has decided to extend an assistance of US$82,021 for a humanitarian assistance program　entitled “The Project for Construction of Myo Daw Oo Monastic Primary School in Mon State”.

Mr. Ichiro MARUYAMA, Charge’d Affaires ad interim of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and U Myit Soe, Chairman of Myo Daw Oo Monastic Primary School Building　Construction Committee,　signed the grant contract on November 8, 2012.

Myo Daw Oo Monastic Primary School opened in 2004 for orphans and children of poor families in order to provide basic education and religious teaching. There were no separate school buildings in the monastery the Sayadaw (Chief Monk) constructed temporary teaching building in the monastery compound by using his own money in 2006. In that year, the monastic primary school was officially recognized by the government.

The hall-typed ceiling-less low school building makes the class-rooms noisy especially in the rainy seasons and hot in dry seasons. The school building has been getting old because of in expensive construction materials used at the construction time. Moreover, the population of the school children is gradually increasing because of the school’s good teaching techniques As a result there is not enough space for students for comfortable learning environment. Although, the Sayadaw (Chief Monk) and School Committee is seeking to construct a new school building to solve their problems, they have been facing financial difficulties.

Under such circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for the construction of a 45 feet x 28 feet R.C. two-storeyed school building with five class-rooms, toilets, and school furniture for Myo Daw Oo Monastic Primary School through its (GGP) scheme. It is expected that this assistance will provide the students with better learning environment and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
