The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, granted for three humanitarian programs. Those grants are US$86,220 for construction of Tha Phan Kaing Monastic Primary School in Naung Cho Township, US$93,757 for Improvement of the facility of the Naung Cho Orphanage for Disabled Children and US$99,065 for construction of Nat Ye Kan Monastic Primary School in Lashio Township in Shan State. The hand-over ceremony and opening ceremony of each school and the orphanage was held on 10 and 11 December 2012 at respective project sites.
Mr. Hideaki MATSUO, Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in Yangon, respective school and orphanage management committee members, township administrative authorities, officials and local people attended the ceremonies.
Those school and orphanage school management committees faced challenges due to their old and small buildings with increasing numbers of students and disabled orphans, while facing financial difficulties to construct new buildings by their own effort. Under such circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for construction of relevant R.C. buildings at each place.
It is expected that those assistance will provide the students and disabled orphans in Shan State with better learning and sanitation environment and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
