
The Government of Japan, under itsGrant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP)Scheme, hasdecided to extendassistance ofUS$479,276forhumanitarian assistance program for construction of two basic education schools and three monastic basic education schools inMandalay Region and Mon and Kayah States.
H.E.Mr.Mikio NUMATA, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and Chairmenofeach SchoolBuilding Construction Committee, signed the grant contracts on January 30, 2013.
Each school has insufficient classrooms for the students and currently used buildings are also getting too old to have good learning environment for the students. Although the Board of Trustees of each school were seeking opportunity to construct new school buildings to solve their problems, they have been facing financial difficulties.
The granted assistance of each project funded by the GGP Scheme are as follows:-
1) US$97,680for KhaYwe Village Basic Education Post Primary School inKyaikhto Township, Mon State
2) US$102,447Nwalawoe Village Basic Education Middle School in Loikaw Township, Kayah State
3) US$90,489forMo KaungMonastic Middle School inMyingyan Township, Mandalay Region
4) US$98,875forDhammaThukhaMonastic Primary School in Mawlamyine Township, Mon State
5) US$89,785forTike KyaungMonastic Primary School inMyingyan Township, Mandalay Region
It is expected that this assistance willprovide the students with better learning and sanitation environmentand further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
