The Government of Japan, under it’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects(GGP) Scheme, decided to extend assistance of US$120,952 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for Community BridgeConstruction of KyarYar Patty Villagein Myitkyina Township, Kachin State”.
H.E. Mr. MikioNUMATA, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and U Khin Maung Myint, Chairman of NaungPon and Po Sa Chan Villages Road and Bridge Maintenance Committee, signed the grant contract on February 7, 2013.
The access road for the KyarYar Patty Village Tract is the essential road for the villagers. Emergency patients are refferedto MyitkyinaGeneral Hospital which is about 8 miles away from their villages since there is no Hospitals with medical doctorin the area. School children who have successfully finished their Primary School also have to attend the Middle Schools in Myitkyinasince there is only Primary Schools in the Village Tract. Moreover, local agricultural products are brought to the markets in Myitkyina by the villagers to earn for their families.
Such an important access road for the Kyaryatpatty Village Tract is just an earthen road and the villagers are facing difficulties to use the muddy and slippery road in the rainy seasons. To be able to use the road in all weathers, the MyitkyinaTownship Development Committee has allotted the budget for upgrading the 4 miles road section into gravel road and Myitkyina Public Works has also allotted the budget for half mile reach. However, the construction cost of themain bridge on the road is too high for the local people and they are facing financial difficulties to construct the said community bridge.
By recognizing the difficult condition of local people, the Embassy of Japan has decided to assist for construction of the R.C. communitybridge(60 feet long and 14 feet wide) with steel girderby its GGP Scheme. It is expected that this assistance will contribute to the all-round development of the local peoplein Myitkyina Township in their education, health and socio-economicenvironment and further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
