
The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects(GGP) Scheme,has granted for twohumanitarian programsnamely: US$86,605 for construction of Dayeloo Village Basic Education Branch Middle Schoolin Kungyangone Township and US$77,283for construction of Kaytharawati Nunnery Primary Schoolin Thanlyin Township of Yangon Region.The hand-over ceremony and opening ceremony of each school was held on 13 and 14 February 2013 at the respective project sites in each township.
Mr. Kiyotomi TADA, Second Secretary of the Japanese Embassy, District and Township Education Officers, respective school management committee members and local people attended the ceremonies.
Dayeloo Village Basic Education Branch Middle Schooloriginally opened in 1985 as Basic Education Primary School. It was upgraded as the Basic Education Branch Middle School in 2000.At present, about 550 students are studying with 12 teachers by using one main and one temporary school buildings.
Kaytharawati Nunnery Primary School in Thanlyin Township originally opened in 1985 with 6 orphan girls. Gradually it accepted more girls and nuns at school and in 2007 nunnery education started. It was recognized as the nunnery primary school by the Ministry of Religious Affairs in 2011.At present, nearly 300 students are studying with 17 teachers by using one main and two temporary school buildings.
Both schools are getting old and temporary buildings cannot provide the students adequate learning environment without spaces and furniture. Undersuch circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for construction of100’x30’ one storey RC school building with 5 classrooms, toilets and furniture forDayeloo Village Basic Education Branch Middle School and for construction of 40’x32’two storied RC school building with 4 classrooms and school furniture for Kaytharawati Nunnery Primary School respectively through its GGP Scheme.
It is expected that theseassistances willprovide the students and teacherswith better learning and sanitation environment and further strengthen existing friendly relations betweenJapan and Myanmar.
