
The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP)Scheme, has decided to extend assistance totallingUS$275,688forhumanitarian assistance program for construction of one monastic basic education middle school in Magway Region; one monastic eye specialist clinic in Yangon Region; and provision of three autoclaves at New Yangon General Hospital in Yangon Region.
H.E.Mr.Mikio NUMATA, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and Chairman of School Building Construction Committee, Tipitaka Setkhu Parla Eye Treatment Organization Committee and Medical Superintendent of New Yangon General Hospital signed the grant contracts on February 22, 2013.
The granted assistances funded by the GGP Scheme and grant contracts signed are:-
1) US$105,845 for construction of Kandaw Monastic Basic Education Middle School in Pakokku Township, Magway Region
2) US$123,228forconstruction of Eye Specialist Clinic at the Tipitaka Paleyaung Shein Monastery in Mingalardon Township, Yangon Region
3) US$46,615 for upgrading of New Yangon General Hospital in Yangon Region
Although each organization was seeking opportunity to fulfill their needs to solve the problems of students and patients, they have been facing financial difficulties. Under such circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for construction of the said school building and clinic and for provision of necessary medical equipment (autoclaves) at the New Yangon General Hospital.
It is expected that these assistances will provide the students of one village in Pakokku Township with better learning and sanitation environment, the people and eye patients of Yangon City and surrounding areas with better health care services and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
