THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR GRASSROOTS HUMAN SECURITY PROJECTS FORCONSTRUCTION OF ONE HIGH SCHOOL IN HAKA TOWNSHIP, TWO SUB RURAL HEALTH CENTERS IN FALAM TOWNSHIP, CHIN STATE AND; ONE MIDDLE SCHOOL IN SALIN TOWNSHIP, MAGWAY REGION”

The Government of Japan, under itsGrant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP)Scheme, has decided to extend assistance of US$ 553,821 for humanitarian assistance program for construction of Haka Basic Education High School No. 3 in Haka Township, two Sub Rural Health Centers at Ramhtalo and Theesang Villages in Falam Township, Chin State and Salin Basic Education Middle School in Magway Region.

H.E.Mr.Mikio NUMATA, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and Chairmanofeach Schooland Sub Rural Health Center BuildingConstruction Committeesigned the grant contracts on March 8, 2013respecively.

The granted assistance funded by the GGP Scheme are as follows:-
1) US$313,745 for Construction of Haka Basic Education High School No.3 in Haka Township, Chin State
2) US$99,179 for Construction of Sub Rural Health Centers at Ramhtalo and Theesang Villages in Falam Township, Chin State
3) US$140,897 for Construction of Salin Basic Education Middle School in Salin Township, Magway Region

Each school does not have sufficient classrooms for the students and the current buildings are getting aged to provide good learning environment for the students. Although the Board of Trusteesof each school has been seeking opportunity to construct new school buildings to improve their current situations, they have been facing financial difficulties. Ramhtalo and Theesang Villages in Falam Township also do not have proper sub rural health center buildings with health care facilities to provide the health care services to the villagers by the mid-wives and health staff of the Department of Health.

The Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for the construction ofa two storied 180’x30’ RC school building with fourteen classrooms and school furniture for Haka Basic Education High School No. 3, one storied 40’x25’ RC Sub RuralHealth Center with the residence of mid-wife, water supply system and furniture for each Ramhtalo and Theesang Village in Falam Township and a three storied 90’x30’ RC school building with nine classrooms and school furniture for Salin Basic Education Middle School through its GGP Scheme.It is expected that theseassistance willprovide the students in Haka and Salin with better learning environment and will also provide the local Chin people in Falam Township with better health care services; and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
